WALTER JOHN HUSBAND LAKE

Walter was born in 1872 in Jersey Channel Islands and was the son of David Lake & Elizabeth Jane Ivey. The reason Walter was in court is something that is often referred to in todays newspaper stories that of domestic abuse and possibly what we now refer to as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Between 1899 & 1902 Walter was No 3559 of the 2nd Yorkshire Light Infantry fighting in the Boar War in South Africa. In 1913 he emigrated to Canada with the idea of setting things up to bring out his wife and family, but when the great war started in 1914 he enlisted into the 91st Regiment Argyle Canadian Highlanders. Due to an injury he was medically discharged from the army on 7 Mar 1915 at Tidworth Wiltshire and was sent to his family home in Guernsey Channel Islands. Within months problems started which could possibly be linked to PTSD but that wasn't heard of in 1915.

Walter went back to Canada in 1918 and bought land in Alberta but then the trail goes cold. Nothing can be found of Walter after 1918 he disappeared into the Canadian wilderness.

I would like to thank Walter's Great Granddaughter Alison Bott for all of her invaluable help in tracing the life of Walter. This page wouldn't have been completed without her assistance.
