There has long been strong links between the UK & Australia within the Lake Family Tree, none more so of course than our own son Andrew, who emigrated in 2002.
He spent a total of 14 years there before his death living and working primarily in Melbourne, but also in Adelaide, Alice Springs, Sydney, Canberra and finally Wodonga.
Due to modern travel I have visited 3 times and Janet has been 4 times, but in those olden days of course, once someone set off for the other side of the world, you probably would not see them again.

Manslaughter in
the Family
Irene Marjorie Bessie Beadle, my 2nd cousin 1 x removed, was killed by a car driven negligently by a salesman Leonard George Shuttleworth in 1952.
Irene had lived a full life having been married 4 times. She emigrated to Sydney on 22 Apr 1924 after her first husband, John Downey, faced a charge of bigamy, but once in Australia 3 more husbands followed.
At the time of her
death Irene was a widow.
135 years before Andrew flew into Melbourne, Edward Wills Uren my 1st cousin 4 x removed made the journey by ship in 1867 along with his wife Mary Frantom Lawer and 7 of their 8 children. Amazingly they moved again and by 1870 were living in Otago New Zealand but Edward died back in Melbourne in 1894.
Some of the family stayed in Dundedin, New Zealand whilst others came back to Melbourne Australia.
Their eldest child, Constentine Thomas Wills Uren, went the other way and ended up in California, so the family was split across three countries.
Elizabeth Jane Lake 1850-1927
Elizabeth Jane Lake my 2nd cousin 3 x removed arrived in Brisbane on 24 May 1889 with her husband William Louis Blee and their 5 children to start their new lives in a new country.
William died in 1902 and Elizabeth died in 1927.
The family lived in Townsville Queensland which in 1942 was bombed by Japanese Flying Boats. Some of Elizabeth's children were still living in Townsville at that time
