Harry Weatherhead is my 3rd cousin once removed and was born in Nash Buckinghamshire in 1881. On 24 Jan 1901 he volunteered to join up when Britain was fighting the Boar War. He was posted to the Imperial Yeomanry and after his basic training on 13 Mar 1901 was posted to South Africa. On 5th Sept 1901 he was slightly wounded at Rhenosterfontein in the North Province. By February 1902 he was in Mafeking in the North West Province where he was killed in action on 6 Feb 1902.

Mafeking is famous for the Siege of Mafeking which took place between 14 Oct 1899 & 16 May 1900 when 1500 British Troops under Colonel Baden Powell faced 7,500 Boar fighters. The British held out until they were relieved. His experiences at Mafeking was part of the reason that Baden Powell later started an organisation called The Boy Scouts in 1907.
