EMIGRATION

Travelling and moving home has probably been happening as long as humans have been on this planet. Exploring is part of human nature and the promise or hope of a better life stirs people into action. Personally I have never lived abroad, although at one time Janet & I did intend to emigrate to Canada, we had filled out the application forms, but the offer of a promotion within the UK changed that idea.

We have lived in 3 different countries within the UK, England, Scotland & Wales but compared to some of our ancestors that is nothing.

From the Mayflower in 1620 the promise of life in the "New Worlds" of America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and others inspired people to become pioneers and explore these mighty lands. As yet I have not found a relative on the Mayflower but plenty of ancestors since that time took the step to emigrate to these countries.

On the following pages I will look at their stories and find the links between the Lake Family in the UK to the relatives on distant shores.

The United States of America is a mighty big place and with that in mind I am splitting it into two and looking at ancestors on the Western side and then Ancestors on the Eastern side, I have not stated West Coast & East Coast because I also need to cover some Mid States.

Canada another mighty big country but will be looked

at as a whole because the Lake ancestors tended

to congregate into only a few areas.

Like wise Australia & New Zealand will be

covered in one section.

The next few pages are going to be quite a journey,

for those early travellers it was all about

life on the ocean waves,

for us now it's about flying through the sky

whatever form of transport you prefer

lets depart on an amazing journey
